Introduction
Catholic tradition over the years has been led by the Eucharist, the taking of bread and wine with the understanding that it is the blood and body of Christ. This long-standing tradition is further celebrated in the annual Feast of Corpus Christi, where Catholics celebrate Christ’s presence in the Eucharist through a structured procession, mass and feast.
This exhibit is focused on the procession component of the Feast of Corpus Christi, as practiced in the Columbia Plateau region of the United States in the 1920’s. Jesuits missionaries utilized this tradition in their conversion of indigenous peoples to Catholicism.
